Six years ago my news director in Albuquerque, New Mexico, came up to me and asked what I thought about changing positions in the news room from news anchor/reporter to weather man.  Growing up in Albuquerque, I was familiar with sunny skies and warm temperatures; I figured I should give it a try.  Never did I dream that today I would be in Houston, Texas, forecasting in a place that experiences almost every kind of weather imaginable.  
 
I’ve learned a lot in these six years and I always strive to learn more.  That’s why a few months ago I took on the challenge of being your AMS Chapter President.  For me, attending our chapter meetings is about gaining more knowledge in order to be a more informed broadcast meteorologist.  
 
All of us have our own stories about how weather became our passion and how we got into the “business”.  We have NWS members, NASA employees, forecasters of all kinds representing different businesses, and of course we have weather enthusiasts.  With all of our different backgrounds, I thought we would do something a little different to start out the year.  Instead of getting right into it, we decided to have our first meeting a “meet and greet”.  We’re paying for the appetizers so the only

The Houston Chapter boasts of one of the most diverse memberships in the country.  Due to our location we have meteorologists and scientists working for many different types of industry, government, private and media.  These people are involved in forecasting and monitoring weather world-wide, right from Houston. 
 In addition, we welcome everyone and anyone who is interested in weather and weather-related topics. 
Our dues are only $10 per year.  Funds are used to pay for dinner and thank you gifts for our speakers, and provide awards for the winners of the Houston AMS Special Awards at the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston held each spring.
